I thought I’d share what I’ll be reading in the first couple months of 2021. In theory, this is for those interested. In reality, it’s probably a desperate attempt to keep myself on track. Which is why I’m only doing the first month or two. Anything beyond that is just unrealistic.

I’m going to break this down into two categories — listening and reading. I always have an audio book going in addition to what I’m reading. I listen during workouts and yardwork these days, since I don’t really leave the house very often.

Audio:

Right now I’m about 75% complete on my listen to KINGDOM OF COPPER by SA Chakraborty. I’m a bit late on this one, as the third book is already out. It’s a great fantasy series, and I’ll surely work in book 3 later in the year.

Next up: HOLLOW EMPIRE by Sam Hawke. This is the sequel to 2018’s CITY OF LIES, and I’ve been looking forward to it ever since I got that one upon release. This completes the duology.

Coming soon: THE FIRES OF VENGEANCE by Evan Winter. This is the sequel to A RAGE OF DRAGONS, which I loved last year, and I think this also closes the series–another duology.

After that: I’m not sure. I picked up RECURSION by Blake Crouch and MALICE by John Gwynne in a recent audible sale, so it might be one of those unless something new comes up.

Reading:

Current: I’m about 80% done with A MEMORY OF EMPIRE, by Arkady Martine. I’ll probably finish that tomorrow.

Next up: FOUNDRYSIDE by Robert Jackson Bennett. I’m a bit slow in getting to this one. Time to rectify that.

Coming soon: TO BE TAUGHT IF FORTUNATE, by Becky Chambers, MIDDLEGAME by Seanan McGuire, THE CALLING by Branwen OShea, and DOMESTICATING DRAGONS, by Dan Koboldt.

Regarding Dan’s book, this is something I read maybe two or three years ago when he was first developing the project, so I’m excited to see where it’s gone since then. It’s such a great concept–a corporation that genetically engineers dragons as pets. I mean…what could possibly go wrong?

And that’s about it for now. I’m sure I’ll add something in — if someone sends me something to blurb, or just to check out. Or if people I know start talking about something. I can never really stick to a list. But hey, it’s a new year. Maybe I’ll change.
